Morris Federation Day of Dance

Phoenix Morris’ 2nd visit to London within a week saw us out on tour on a not so sunny day at the Morris Federation Day of Dance 2018. This years dancing was held on the Southbank between Waterloo and London Bridge, part of a weekend based at Cecil Sharpe House hosted this year by New Esperance Morris.
A fun day but rather damp we danced with some friendly Sides. Our highlight was the final spot held under the arches near the Kings Arms Waterloo dancing with Phoenix Clog and Five Rivers Morris from Far away Sheffield.

A great finale to end our day. Some of us then headed back to Cecil Sharpe House where we enjoyed a concert on Canals of Old England and then danced the night away at the Ceilidh to Panjandrum, it was here we said our farewells to young Andrew (pictured below) who was off to University the following day but he has promised we definitely haven’t seen the last of him – we wish him all the very best!

Wild Hunt Day of Dance

On a Sunny September Saturday, Phoenix joined Wild Hunt Bedlam Border Morris for their day of Dance on London’s South Bank.

After a little initial confusion about where we were supposed to be dancing we managed to track down Wild Hunt, Old Palace Clog and Rampant Rooster outside The Anchor and join in the fun.

It was another great afternoon of dancing. Highlights included dancing South Australia next to the Golden Hinde and a very bouncy Constant Billy at Hays Galleria.

Andrew also did a sterling job when he was unexpectedly called to join in a Wild Hunt Dance which he has never done before.

Kicking off a new season in style at Swanage

Phoenix had a great time at Swanage folk festival this year with some glorious sunshine and fun other sides to dance with. IMG_20180908_175050_486.jpg

This year we decided to join in the dancing at St Mary’s on Sunday morning for the first time in a few years. It was a lovely opportunity to see a range of other sides perform and we also had some very kind compliments on our performance of Upton Stick.

Another great year at one of our regular festivals.

Feeling hot hot hot

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for Phoenix and the sun has most definitely been shining on us for every dance out!

Last weekend a small group of us attended the Queens Oak/ Rose and Castle weekend and had a fab time camping and dancing. As always,  the host sides did a fantastic job!

On Wednesday Phoenix joined a whole host of other sides for the annual St Michael’s evening in St Albans. It was the usual chaotic cacophony of Morris and loads of fun!

Today we danced at Fulmer Fete where we were ‘waistcoats off’ in the afternoon heat. Sadly the audience was somewhat depleted… apparently there was a football match going on…!
